We are very happy to announce that the Peel Media friends and family team have raised £6,210.07 (plus an additional £500 from gift aid) for Barnabus, a homeless charity in Manchester.
Emma Connolly, Senior PA and Office Manager for Peel Media who coordinated the challenge said:
“We chose Barnabus as homelessness is a huge issue in Manchester and we wanted to do our bit to help. We decided on the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge as we really wanted to push ourselves. I felt a huge sense of achievement after we finished! It was such a good feeling to have raised such a large amount of money but also completing the challenge was amazing as it was the toughest thing I have ever done!”
Each £5 donation provides breakfast, an opportunity for a shower, clean clothes, toiletries and a warm safe space away from the streets. It enables users to connect with Barnabus’ caring team and find hope, encouragement and a sense of belonging. It also provides a vital first step in building trust and opening the door for greater support.
The £6,765.07 raised by the team will support 1,353 visits to Barnabus’ drop-in.
Stephen Wild, Managing Director of MediaCityUK said:
“We are very proud of Peel Media’s friends and family team fantastic achievement. It reflects the determined nature of all at MediaCityUK and their can-do attitude when it comes to challenges while still enjoying it! Barnabus play a hugely important role in the community and we hope that the money raised will help many homeless and vulnerable people in Greater Manchester.”
Samantha McDermott, Facilities and Operations Coordinator who took part in the challenge said:
“I can definitely say the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is one of the hardest things I’ve done! I think having the mental strength to push through the exhaustion was the most difficult thing. It was so important to keep hydrated and to snack constantly, so it really helped us a lot that the lovely people at KIND Snacks donated plenty of delicious bars to keep us going.”
A spokesperson from Barnabus added: “We’re so thankful for MediaCityUK’s commitment and generosity of their supporters to help the homeless in Manchester”.
